Canada Muslims condemn alleged bomb plot

TORONTO, Ontario (CNN) — Canadian Muslim organizations have condemned an alleged plot to bomb Toronto-area buildings, while a lawyer for one of the 17 suspects in custody called the charges against them “vague.”

‘All fake,’ father charges

Abdelhaleem, who works as a consultant for Atomic Energy of Canada and a hydro company, said his job has nothing to do with his son or the charges.

“He is a very decent and good kid. He has no violent inclinations at all. I couldn’t believe it when I heard. It is not in our family. We have no intentions of such things,” said Abdelhaleem, who added his son’s only crime is that “he goes and prays in a mosque.”

Canada charges 17 terror suspects

Police in Canada have arrested and charged 12 men who they say were planning an “al-Qaeda-inspired” bombing campaign in and around Toronto. Five other youths have also been charged, following an investigation involving more than 400 officers.

Six of 17 terror suspects charged with bomb offences

Six of 17 suspects arrested over the weekend in connection with an alleged plot to bomb Ontario targets have been charged with planning to cause a deadly explosion.

The charges, released Monday morning, reveal that Fahim Ahmad, Zakaria Amara, Asad Ansari, Shareef Abdelhaleen, Qayyum Abdul Jamal and Saad Khalid have been accused of the most serious charges in the alleged plot.
